Bird Feeders

What messy work making the bird feeders! We covered the pine cones in peanut butter and then rolled them in seeds. We hope all the small birds in our gardens love them! Tie them onto a branch that you can see from a window and you can do some bird watching too!

All Aboard the Polar Express!

What an exciting afternoon we had yesterday! While in our pyjamas, we gave our golden tickets to the conductor and boarded the Polar Express! We made it to the North Pole, while having hot chocolate and marshmallows just like the children in the Polar Express! We had beautiful buns home made by Linda with melting snowmen on top and yummy cookies from Finn, thank you Linda and Finn. We love using our imagination, it can take you anywhere!!

Money Matters!

http://www.teachingmoney.co.uk/eurosite/euroindex.html
We have been learning about money this week. In second class, the children should be able to recognise, exchange and use coins up to the value of €2. They should also be practicing how to write the value of a group of coins.

The link to the website above is very useful for getting the children to develop their awareness of the different coins and their associated values.

Happy learning!!

Getting ready for Christmas!

Have a look at what has been going on in Rang a dó for Christmas!
We read 'Snowmen at Night' by Caralyn Buehner and we wrote our own stories about what our snowmen would do at night. Look at our 'Snowmen at Night' artwork.
We are also learning about Advent and counting down to Christmas. We were at mass in Ballyroan yesterday morning.  We are also busy preparing for our Christmas Carol Service and we are learning many songs!
Have a look up at our windows to see our snowflakes and the painted windows! Its also very exciting to see what character greets us at our classroom doors each day!

Cake Sale Reports

Cakes Cakes Cakes
On the 21st November there was a cake sale. It was in the hall. Also in the cake sale there was a raffle, cakes, bread and calendars because we were raising money for Ballyroan Boys' School. It was raised by the Parents Association. I bought 16 cakes. In school I ate 6 and at home I ate 10. It was like a cake break!

Lionel Symmetry!

We have been learning about symmetry in 2nd class. Considering the fact that the boys are very interested in Match Attax at the moment, we decided to use Lionel Messi's face to discuss vertical symmetry and what it means. Suffice to say, it went down well!

Perhaps you might like to continue learning about symmetry at home by identifying symmetrical objects in your environment.

Happy learning!!
